Jackets tame the Wolfpack

Jackets tame the Wolfpack

On a beautiful warm February afternoon the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Men's Lacrosse Team faced off against the N.C. State Wolfpack in an out of conference matchup.  Both teams were coming off wins against the Auburn Tigers in what looked sure to be a tight matchup.

The Jackets wasted no time getting on the board when Brooks Baro fed Joseph Rose 17 seconds into the game.  The Jackets continued their fast start building a five goal lead in the first six minutes of game time.  The Jacket defense stood tall against several Wolfpack possessions early and once the Jackets got the ball on offense they created good looks and took advantage.  The Jackets closed the quarter with a 6-3 lead.

The Jackets scored the first three goals of the second quarter to stretch their lead to 9-3.  The Wolfpack answered with a goal of their own.  The Jackets closed the half with goals from freshmen Andrew Owen and Augie Werthman to build an 11-4 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw the Jacket offense lose their rhythm somewhat while the Wolfpack took advantage of extra possessions and outscored the Jackets 3-2 to enter the fourth quarter with a score 13-7.

Tech regained their focus in the final stanza and was able to rotate younger players in while continuing to control the game.  The Jackets scored five goals in the fourth to get the 18-9 win.

The Jackets will next host the Northeastern Huskies on Saturday February 15 is what has become a budding rivalry over the last several years with the two teams trading wins.
